Carol Jegen '70 - Voice

Carol Jegen has been teaching voice for over 35 years. Many of her students have gone on to performing careers in opera and musical theatre as well as the profession of music teacher. She is the director of the Community Music School's summer musical theatre workshops and has directed many musicals and straight plays for Attic Theatre, a community theatre since 1950. Ms. Jegen has appeared in concert, recital, opera and musicals throughout Wisconsin. She received the Hanns Kretzchmarr Award in 2007 for Excellence in the Arts from the Community Foundation, and in 2012 she received the Zoe Cloak Award from Attic Theatre for Outstanding Achievement and Service to Attic Theatre. She is a member of the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and her students have placed well in state-wide auditions. 

Ms. Jegen received her Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence Conservatory of Music of Lawrence University and continued her studies in Wiesbaden, Germany, where she was a student with Anna Stefan-Langler and Rose-Marie Stoye. She was also a student of Olga Ryss and Bernard Taylor in New York and received the Performer's Certificate from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music as a student of Lee Dougherty. She participated as a student in the Blossom Music Festival of Kent, Ohio and Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. As a soloist, she has performed with the Lawrence University Haydn Creation, Green Bay's Sebastian Chamber Orchestra's Mozart Tribute, the Green Bay Opera Production of The Magic Flute, The Fox Valley Symphony's Vaughan-Williams Serenade to Music and numerous pops concerts, and the Green Lake Festival under Sir David Willcocks. She performed for several years with the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre's Christmas production and appeared as a guest soloist for A Night in Old Prague with a selection of arias by Czech composers.
 
In addition to her private studio in Appleton and private lessons through the Community Music School, Ms. Jegen has taught voice at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, and participated in master classes with sopranos Regina Resnik, Phyllis Bryn-Julsson, and Margaret Harshaw. As a chorister, she has sung with Robert Shaw, Robert Page, Margaret Hillis, Gregg Smith, Robert De Cormier, and was a member in NYC of the New York Kantorei, which specialized in performing music of the 15^th through 18^th centuries. She is a founding member of the White Heron Chorale of the Fox Valley, newly changed to the name newVoices, and has performed regularly as a soloist as well as chorister and stage director.
