Mary Van De Loo '89 - Director

Mary Van De Loo was named Director of the LA smiling woman with wavy, brunette hair wears a black blazer.awrence Community Music School in July of 2022. Prior to accepting this position, she was an Instructor of Music in the Lawrence Conservatory of Music. She taught piano pedagogy, coordinated the keyboard skills area, and also maintained a studio of pre-college students as a part of LCMS since 1993. A member of MTNA, she is a sought-after workshop clinician and adjudicator, and she has had articles published in Clavier and Keyboard Companion magazines. Prior to her positions at Lawrence, Ms. Van De Loo was Director of the Division of Preparatory Music at Indiana State University, where she taught piano and coordinated all activities for the pre-college piano program. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano from Lawrence University and a Master of Music degree in piano and piano pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. She studied piano with Theodore Rehl and Digby Bell and pedagogy with Kathleen Murray, Jane Magrath, and E.L. Lancaster.

Cheryl Boyle - Assistant Director

Cheryl Boyle handles all billing and registration processes for the Community Music School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in education with an emphasis on special education from Indiana State University. She continued her education at Purdue University and Loyola University focusing on Educational Leadership.

Mrs. Boyle is an experienced educator and administrator. She taught students in grades 1-12 with emotional and behavioral issues in Indiana, Illinois, and California, served as a consultant to five school districts serving students with physical disabilities in northwest Indiana, and was the Dean of Students at Glencoe (IL) Middle School, where she was in charge of all scheduling and discipline issues.  

Upon moving to Wisconsin, Mrs. Boyle worked as a special education teacher in the Appleton Area School District. She was also the co-owner and co-founder of KC Candies, where she developed recipes, created marketing plans and budgets, and sold and distributed the company’s products. Her gourmet caramel pears won a Best of Cleveland Award and were featured at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Rachel Becker- Media and Communications Specialist

Rachel Becker handles Media and Communications for Lawrence Community Music School. Rachel was born and raised in Appleton, WI and has returned after living in Washington and Colorado for a few years. Rachel has earned her bachelor’s degree in business communications from DeVry University of Chicago. During her time in Colorado, she was the director of a gymnastics club where she loved her work with kids and the community. She is excited to focus in on her field of study, while still pursuing her passion of work with the community! Rachel loves the time and passion put forth to follow the progressions of a sport or musical instrument. The dedication taught to children through these activities is a lifelong skill that she is excited to see formed here at the Lawrence Community Music School.
