Lawrence Community Wind Ensemble (Grades 9-12, auditioned)
The Lawrence Community Wind Ensemble provides an environment for advanced woodwind, brass, and percussion players in grades 9-12 to experience masterpieces of wind literature and work toward a goal beyond the accepted norm. Involvement in the program is invaluable for students who desire to continue their musical journey into college, allowing them to stand out as passionate musicians and dedicated members of an honors ensemble. Wind Ensemble also offers students an array of non-musical benefits and life skills, including the development of accountability, patience, confidence, community, and artistry.
Lawrence Community bands rehearse weekly on Monday nights in the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. Two ten-week semesters each culminate with a performance on the stage of the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. Symphonic Band, our non-auditioned band for dedicated young musicians, is an appropriate first step for students who wish to play with Wind Ensemble.

"I am a tenured musician with a major US orchestra and have a DMA in clarinet performance. My involvement in these programs gave me a formidable foundation on which to build a career in music performance. [...] I cherish the memories and friends I made in both Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble two decades later."
-Erin VanderWyst, Lawrence Community Bands alum (4 years)
Students registered for Community Music School ensembles are also expected to participate in a curricular (during the school day, for credit) performing musical ensemble when available; Wind Ensemble should not substitute for curricular music programs.
