Lawrence Community Symphonic Band (Grades 7-12, non-auditioned)

The Lawrence Community Symphonic Band provides dedicated woodwind, brass, and percussion players in grades 7-12 the opportunity to prepare and perform challenging band literature in an environment driven by collaboration and camaraderie. Ensemble members also develop life skills that support a high level of musical performance, including confidence, patience, independence, and communication.

Lawrence Community bands rehearse weekly on Monday nights in the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. Two ten-week semesters each culminate with a performance on the stage of the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. Symphonic Band is an appropriate first step for students who wish to play in the Lawrence Community Wind Ensemble, our auditioned honors band.

2023-2024 Season

Rehearsals: September 2023-March 2024; Mondays, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Fee: $327
No audition is required, although band members should have at least two years of experience on their instrument.

"My kids love band. Through the Lawrence Community Band program, they have been able to see how much they know and where they are headed with their instruments. They expand their musical knowledge and take that back to school band as well.”
– Rebecca Quiroz, Symphonic Band parent

Students registered for Community Music School ensembles are also expected to participate in a curricular (during the school day, for credit) performing musical ensemble when available; Symphonic Band should not substitute for curricular music programs.
